The Oct. minutes were distributed and read. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Mary Parker and seconded by Donna Lawlor.
Motion passed.
President’s Report:
- Michele Harris asked all representatives to check the email list information to let her know if there are any remaining changes to be made.
- She is continuing to make school visits with an effort to enlist representatives from all schools.
- There was discussion about the additional five work days for next school year. Per an email from Keith Davis, this will be a one-time situation in order to update and plan with the new standards. Teacher pay will be the actual daily rate of pay rather than the stipend rate. This is verified in the contract under “non-instructional days,” p. 40, section 3, article 39.
- Mr. Davis wants teachers to let him know immediately of any unchangeable plans (i.e. wedding, etc.) which would prevent attendance in the first week
of August.
Michele urged all members to complete an on-line survey which will be forthcoming by the end of the week.
- The recent election results were released by Debi Carnefix-Needler. Our gratitude goes to her for the many hours on this task.
- Michele expressed a need for more help on both the Election Committee for the spring elections and the Community Outreach Committee.
Vice-President’s Report:
- The Evaluation Appeals Policy is being changed to match the teacher contract. It has had its second reading.
- The BOE approved the purchase of eight new school buses. Five are funded by the recent increase in tax revenue.
- There is a proposed 14-step “Dropout Prevention Procedure” which begins at the school level and is currently being reviewed.
Treasurer’s Report:
- There was a problem with the Excel program and the report will be emailed by Amanda Yarbrough.
Also:
- Cindi Brockman, NBHS, requested the meeting agendas to be emailed one week in advance and that announcements be sent to all BCEA members rather than to the building reps. only.
- Mary Parker, NBHS, explained and demonstrated the use of the BCEA Blog Site (by WordPress). She will begin adding the minutes of our monthly minutes along with the names of all BCEA Reps and Fifth District Reps.
- Elena Crane notified all of a survey by TELLKENTUCKY.com, the procedure for taking it, and also its importance to all educators. It will be strictly confidential with the school results posted online if at least 50% of the school completes the survey. Otherwise, only district results would be received. KEA will have the total results by May, 2011. Elena will supply new details as they are learned.
- Door Prizes: Thanks to Pat Curran of Class Act Federal Credit Union for awarding U of L and U of K bears and a Meijer gift card.
- Adjournment: The motion was made by Karen Brown with a second by Whitney Barnette.
